Bardic Circle

About Bardic Circle

You cross over the drawbridge and turn off the main track into the tall grass. Outside the shelter of the castle walls, you start to wonder if this is perhaps a good idea after all, but the night is warm and the breeze, now, interestingly enough, on your back, seems to urge you onward. The ground slopes up gently toward the top of the hill where perhaps a score of people—elf, dwarf, and human—sit around the flickering circle of light. Beyond the fire, the forest looms darkly, but crackle of the flames and the merry voices banish the last lingering shadows of trepidation.

You pause at the edge of the firelight to look down the hill. The moon glimmers on the water of the moat and the smooth, pale stone of the castle walls. Stars fill the sky, and the grasses whisper in the breeze. The peace is complete. Is it magic actively at work or just the absence of all the things that normally disrupt what was always there?

"Good eve, friend!" a voice hails from the circle. "Come, have a seat. We were just about to begin another song, or perhaps a poem. You may choose the next performer...."
