Tower of MagikeAbout the Tower of Magike
The heavy, oak door creaks inward, and you find yourself in a small circular antechamber, flagstoned and clean, but empty except for the stone stair that spirals out of sight around the wall. It's up or out, and you came here seeking magike, so up it is. With each half turn, you pass a deep-set embrasure and can see, alternately, the courtyard and the lush countryside beyond the walls of the castle. After some minutes, you realize the views are from a vantage point significantly higher than the top of any tower you viewed from the ground far below. Tower of magike, indeed. You finally reach the top and are greeted by another heavy, oak door. This one is covered with sigils, and runes are etched in the stones over the door. When you reach a hand out, several of strange characters begin to glow. For a moment, you think to make your way back down, but if visitors were so unwanted, why have no wards until now? You lean against the door. Every rune and sigil flares to life. There is a flash...
...and you find yourself in simply, but comfortably, furnished chamber. The floor is stone, but covered with thick, hand woven rugs. A large fireplace is set into the curved wall, and long tapestries hang between windows, the view from which tell you that you are still very high up. Around the edge of the room are several cabinets, shelves of books, and a few reading chairs next to tables with oil lamps. A single chair and wooden table, piled with scrolls, and serving as a home for several arcane looking items, rests in the center of the room. You approach the table and wisely decide to leave the items where they are, at least until you've found something that tells you what they are. Now, as to the scrolls... which to choose....
